-- Jerk Progression Series - Step 3 –⠀ ⠀ The Tall Jerk helps bridge the gap between the movements from split position and the full lift. It allows us to isolate the footwork part and focus on moving under efficiently and receiving the bar in a stable position.⠀ ⠀ I think it helps to think of this one as the 'Split and Catch Drill'. Why this is helpful will become more apparent next week as we progress to the full movement.⠀ ⠀ See the video for a demonstration on how to perform.⠀ ⠀ Start with the bar just overhead, full body extension and up on your toes. From here, find you balance and then move your feet quickly to you receive position while punching the arms out.⠀ ⠀ Imagine the bar being fixed in the position just overhead and you are going to split under and catch.⠀ ⠀ Key points are: ⠀ - Back leg should be bent and acts like a shock absorber.⠀ - Recover by pushing back off the front foot first, then bring the back leg in line.⠀ - Try to land in your split with the feet securing exactly at the same time as the arms locking out. Pause for a second in the catch for stability.⠀ ⠀ This will really help make the footwork both automatic and very stable setting the best foundation to build a heavy jerk on!⠀ ⠀ Give this a go and let me know how you get on.
